(English version below)

Estimados colegas,

Tenemos el agrado de anunciar la octava “La Plata International School on Astronomy and Geophysics”:

VIII LAPIS 2019: “Pulsations along Stellar Evolution”.

http://pase.fcaglp.unlp.edu.ar/

http://pase.fcaglp.unlp.edu.ar/Registration.html

Los profesores de la Escuela serán: Dr. Omar Benvenuto, Dra. Alejandra Christen, Dr. Wolfgang Glatzel, Dra. Michaela Kraus, Dr. Simon Murphy, Dra. Alejandra Romero y Dra.

– Cefeidas, delta Scuti, enanas blancas, supergigantes azules, supergigantes rojas

– estrellas pulsantes en sistemas binarios.

6) Técnicas observacionales: curvas de luz fotométricas, series temporales espectroscópicas, datos polarimétricos.

7) Métodos/Técnicas de análisis de pulsaciones. Transformada de Fourier Rápida, Lomb-Scargle, Wavelets, etc.

8) Exoplanetas alrededor de estrellas pulsantes.

9) Misiones actuales y futuras dedicadas a estudiar pulsaciones estelares.

Saludos cordiales,

Andrea F. Torres

Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the eighth “La Plata International School on Astronomy and Geophysics”:

VIII LAPIS 2019: “Pulsations along Stellar Evolution”.

http://pase.fcaglp.unlp.edu.ar/

The School will held at the Facultad de Ciencias Astronómicas y Geofísicas, La Plata, Argentina, from November 11 to 22, 2019.

The goal of this School is to train the next generation of researchers in the field of stellar pulsations and raise awareness about the importance of asteroseismology for our understanding of stellar structure and the evolution of stars. The School is aimed at PhD students, but early-career post-docs or late-stage under-graduate students can apply as well, provided that their main research field lies within the school’s subjects. The classes will be given by researchers of international relevance and will include theoretical and practical courses. The official language of the School will be English.

The “online” registration will be open until June 28, 2019. You can find more information at:

http://pase.fcaglp.unlp.edu.ar/Registration.html

The professors of the School will be: Dr. Omar Benvenuto, Dr. Alejandra Christen, Dr. Wolfgang Glatzel, Dr. Michaela Kraus, Dr. Simon Murphy, Dr. Alejandra Romero and Dr. Maja Vučković.

The topics to be addressed are:

1) Stellar evolution theory, theory of pulsations, excitation mechanisms, p and g modes.

2) Theory of pulsations, stochastic modes (adiabatic, linear) strange modes (non-adiabatic, non-linear).

3) Influence of rotation, r modes.

4) Change in pulsation behavior along stellar evolution of low- and high-mass stars.

5) Introduction to different types of pulsating stars on the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram:

– massive stars, low-mass stars, solar-type stars, early- and late-type stars.

– Cepheid variable stars, delta Scuti variables, white dwarfs, blue supergiants, red supergiants

– pulsating stars in binary systems.

6) Observational methods: photometric light curves, spectroscopic time-series, polarimetry/polarization.

7) Methods/Techniques to analyze pulsations: Fast Fourier Transform, Lomb-Scargle, Wavelets, etc.

8) Exoplanets around pulsating stars.

9) Current and future missions devoted to study stellar pulsations.

We would be grateful if you could circulate this announcement in your Universities and Institutes and share it with your students and researchers.

With best regards,

Andrea F. Torres
