The Physics Institute of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) would like to hire a faculty member in the area of astronomy and astrophysics through the CONICYT PAI program “Subvención a la Instalación en la Academia Convocatoria 2018” (http://www.conicyt.cl/pai/2018/04/20/convocatoria-nacional-concurso-subvencion-a-la-instalacion-en-la-academia-2018/).

We are seeking a young outstanding scientist with proven ability and commitment to excellence in independent research. Candidates must have a PhD degree (obtained within the last 7 years), postdoctoral experience, and a proven track record in research in astronomy and astrophysics, with preference given to extragalactic astrophysics and/or cosmology. As per CONICYT PAI requirements, the candidates must be Chilean nationals or foreign nationals with a permanent Chilean residence (“Permanencia Definitiva”), as well as not being already a faculty member at another institution. In this position, the successful candidate is expected to do research, apply for external grants, and teach physics and astrophysics at the undergraduate and graduate level.
