First announcement

Since the first and only Chilean Gemini users meeting held in Santiago in 2009, not only the Chilean astronomical community has kept growing at a dazzling pace, but also Gemini South has seen many changes with the commissioning of Flamingos-2, GSAOI and GPI, all of which are operational and delivering exciting new results.

This long overdue meeting will gather current and prospective Gemini users to share their new results using Gemini data, learn about the current and future opportunities with Gemini and stimulate new collaborations.

New instrumentation means new opportunities but also new challenges to the users. The second and third days of this meeting will be a workshop where the participants will learn how to reduce GSAOI and Flamingos-2 images, GMOS-IFU and GMOS-MOS data through guided tutorials and hands-on work led by Gemini staff. The workshop will end with an open session where the participants will be able to bring their own data and discuss issues with Gemini staff.

The science meeting will be held on September 6th at the Anfiteatro 1 of the Departamento de Física y Astronomía of the Universidad de La Serena, while the workshop will be on the same venue the 7th and 8th. There will be no registration fee nor poster sessions. Grad students coming from outside La Serena will receive lodging at no cost, and financial support for travel. Lunch will also be provided for all the workshop attendees. To ensure a fruitful interaction between speakers and participants, the science meeting will be limited to 50 people, while the capacity of the workshop will be limited to 30 people. Preference for the workshop will be given to grad students and early career researchers, especially those working or about to work with Gemini data.

Please register in the web site listed below. The deadline for registration will be July 20 for those requiring financial support, while August 15 for those not requiring support. The final program will be announced later that month.
